Announcing the First Ever AHH Contest!

Two things we’ve always wanted to try as a journal are a themed issue and a print issue. We’ve decided to combine them this fall into the First Annual After Happy Hour Contest!

The contest period will open October 15, 2021, and close on December 15, 2021. We’ll release more details in the next couple of weeks, but here’s some teaser info for the curious:

  • Payment will be made through Kickstarter–if we don’t get enough subs to be worth everyone’s time, we won’t do the issue and you’ll get your entry fee back. You’ll also be able to see exactly how much competition you have at any given time (and how much you stand to win if your work comes out on top).
  • The contest theme will be based on the images for the issue, which will be posted to the contest page on our website once the period is open.
  • Two top prizes will be given, one each in prose and poetry.
  • Prizes for the winners will be based on a percentage of the total submission–the more people send work, the more you can win (so tell your friends!).
  • All writers/artists whose work is included in the issue will receive a contributor copy. Submitters can also add a copy for $5 when they submit, and that extra will be included in the potential prize pool.
  • Tentative release date for the print issue is early spring 2022, with the plan/hope to have the issue available in time for the 2022 AWP Conference in Philadelphia.

If you’ve come by looking for our regular submissions–don’t worry, they’ll be back! We’ll re-open for regular free submissions for the next online issue in February 2022.
